Serranator Benefit After Atherectomy

Serranator is an excellent tool for achieving optimal angioplasty results for a given blockage.
In combination with atherectomy, Serranator has been especially effective in treating these patients. Atherectomy helps remove some of the calcium and plaque, improving vessel compliance.
When you then use the Serranator balloon at low pressures, you can perform a very controlled inflation. This allows you to treat the artery by both debulking plaque and modifying calcium, while also performing low-pressure angioplasty that helps avoid dissections and barotrauma.
I typically combine Serranator technology with orbital atherectomy. With orbital atherectomy, the goal is to modify lesion compliance, and these technologies are highly complementary.
With the Serranator balloon, we can achieve low-pressure inflation while delivering high, focused force to the vessel. This enables effective vessel expansion at lower pressures, which leads to fewer dissections and a reduced need for stenting.
We’ve seen significant improvements using the Serranator balloon as a standalone treatment. When combined with atherectomy, the results are even stronger—delivering meaningful luminal gain with a very low risk of dissection.
